Action movies are always there to provide us a good level of entertainment, and they can also help us to reflect on human nature. The ’90s represented the decade of a significant outburst of such productions, and they will surely live in the hearts of many of us.
Whether we’re talking about Jean-Claude Van Damme, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Antonio Banderas, or Sylvester Stallone, they’ve all been playing in unforgettable movies along with other top actors. Our favorite list goes as follows:
Demolition Man (1993)
Imagine a futuristic world where criminals and thugs are being frozen for decades as their evil instincts are abolished. The scenario becomes even more utopic, as crime, corruption, and even meat consumption are eradicated close to perfection. But old habits never die, as a terrible criminal known as Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) manages to escape from his cryo-sentence that would normally last forever. As a lack of options to deal with such a villain, the authorities decide to liberate the only man who can possibly deal with Simon: John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone), the police officer who arrested Simon in the past.
Die Hard 2 (1990)
If you remember the phrase ‘yippee kay yay, motherf*cker!’, it means you were a lucky person for watching some unforgettable movies during the ’90s and the end of the ’80s. John McClane (Bruce Willis) was the protagonist of that famous phrase, one that belongs to one of the most incredible action movie series of all time. The second movie of the series, Die Harder (commonly known as Die Hard 2), tells the story of the officer John McCane as he attempts to avert disaster when rogue military operatives takes control of Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. As he’s usually the wrong man at the wrong time, McClane proves once again in this movie that he’s not messing around when it comes to teaching some manners to wrongdoers the hard way.
A musician who keeps weapons in his guitar case, a beautiful woman, and a wealthy and bloodthirsty drug kingpin – these are just several ingredients of what Desperado has to offer. Known as one of the most famous roles of Antonio Banderas, El Mariachi provides a decent amount of action and drama. Part of the IMDb description says:
Bucho was responsible for the death of El Mariachi’s girlfriend and put a bullet through his fretting hand, making him unable to play the guitar. Bent on revenge, the musician-turned-killing machine arrives in town to put Bucho out of business, though he finds few allies except for Carolina (Salma Hayek), who runs a bookstore that doesn’t seem to attract many readers. Desperado features supporting performances from Cheech Marin as a cynical bartender, Steve Buscemi as the cantina patron who sets up the story, and Quentin Tarantino as a man with a really terrible joke to tell.
Terminator 2 (1991)
There’s no wonder why this is one of the most famous movies of the ’90s: action, thriller, as well as sci-fi elements are elegantly combining to form Arnold Schwarzenegger’s most famous movie. The first machine called The Terminator tried to kill Sarah Connor and John, her unborn son. Another Terminator known as the T-1000 goes back in time as being sent by the supercomputer Skynet. The new Terminator’s mission is to kill John when he’s still a child. But yet another Terminator comes to provide help after performing time travel by itself.
We would be glad to know about your own list of the best action movies from the ’90s. Our list is purely subjective, as there are surely dozens of other action movies from the ’90s that are worth mentioning.
