According to James Gunn, Suicide Squad 3 is certainly possible. Warner Bros. and DC Films introduced the franchise four years ago, and the responses were mixed. On the one hand, the movie was undoubtedly a box office hit that registered nearly $750 million worldwide. Still, it received underwhelming reviews from critics and general audiences.
That might change with the second movie, as Gunn had the chance to steer the direction the franchise is going in a new one with The Suicide Squad, which will be available next summer.
About The Movie
The Suicide Squad is bot a sequel to the first movie and a reboot, though Gunn isn’t keen on labeling the film as either.
Instead, he focused on reinventing the look and vibe of Task Force X.
The new movie will bring back characters like Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn and introduce new ones, like John Cena’s Peacemaker, as well as Idris Elba’s Bloodsport.
The Suicide Squad will probably receive an R-rating, especially as Gunn teases a multitude of character deaths. He is set to go back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and direct the third Guardians of the Galaxy movie, but that doesn’t imply that he won’t be involved in another Suicide Squad movie.
A Possible Third Movie
In an interview with Empire, Gunn spoke about his plans for the movie. During the conversation, he shortly mentioned that a sequel to The Suicide Squad “is definitely a possibility.”
Though nothing is officially confirmed about a third movie, Gunn’s remake of the film may be well over away from release, considering that we don’t know how the pandemic situation will affect the industry next year.
