Google Removes QAnon Apps from the Play Store – Find Out Why

About a third of the total world population is using Android phones, which means that the same people are also using Google’s official marketplace for these gadgets – the Play Store. So many people couldn’t be using Google Play Store if they weren’t happy with it. But although nobody denies the tremendous importance of the Play Store and the diversified content that it offers (and most of it is even free of charge), you know what they say: there’s no such thing as perfection in this world.

This also applies to Google Play Store: even though the service offers numerous apps, games, e-books, wallpapers, and more, it also gets some apps that are refusing to obey the rules.

Three apps removed

Google itself announced recently that it removed from its Play Store three apps that were related to the QAnon conspiracy theory: QMAP, Q Alerts! and Q Alerts LITE. The claimed reason is that the apps had been violating Google’s policies against ‘harmful information’.

A Google spokesman justified the decision by saying:

Now more than ever, combating misinformation on the Play Store is a top priority for the team,

“When we find apps that violate Play policy by distributing misleading or harmful information, we remove them from the store.

The QAnon conspiracy theory is being supported especially by a group of fans of President Donald Trump.  One claim is that Trump is trying to take down the so-called “Deep State,” which is a secret network that controls government policy. Another claim is that celebrities are involved in illegal actions involving children.

Facebook is another tech giant that has been removing content regarding the QAnon conspiracy theory. The social network deleted five pages that were dedicated to the conspiracy theory. We can expect from companies like Google and Facebook to retake such decisions in the near future.
