Google Photos Brings Unpleasant Change Regarding Images and Videos from Certain Apps

If you’re a fan of Google Photos, surely you like the app to do its job automatically. This means that any image that gets into your phone through apps like Instagram, WhatsApp, or even your camera, will automatically be uploaded to a cloud.

But there’s bad news coming regarding Google Photos. The app won’t back up photos and videos anymore from folders created by Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, and other apps. The users of Google Photos will soon notice the change.

The change is temporary

Previous backups won’t be affected, and the change is only temporary. However, there’s no clue for how long it will last. A Google rep recently said the following:

Due to COVID-19, people are sharing more photos and videos,

To save internet resources, backup and sync has been turned off for device folders created by messaging apps like WhatsApp, Messages, and Kik.

The full list of apps affected by the change from Google Photos is pretty big:

  • Facebook
  • Messenger
  • Snapchat
  • LINE
  • Messages
  • Twitter
  • Viber
  • WhatsApp
  • Helo
  • Instagram

If you’re not too familiar with what Google Photos has to bring to the users, an official presentation from the Play Store says:

The official Google Photos app is made for the way you take photos today and includes essential features like shared albums, automatic creations and an advanced editing suite. You won’t have to worry about storage either as you can choose to automatically back up all your photos and videos for free in high quality. You can then access them from any connected device and on photos.google.com.

Google Photos offers a lot of interesting features, and we can include smart automatic albums, free high quality storage, advanced editing suite, automatic creations, live albums, fast and powerful search, photo books, sending photos in seconds, Google Lens, and much more.
