Apple 10.2-Inch iPad vs. Microsoft Surface Go – Which One Is the Best Budget Tablet?

In about a month, Microsoft is bound to reveal the next-gen Windows tablet, which is called the Surface Go. Apple has its tablet on its way, as well, its 10.2-inch iPad. At a first look, Apple might win this one. We have written this article to give you some more info about which one you should choose if you opt to buy one of these budget tablets.

In terms of performance

As of now, the Apple iPad is better than the Surface Go. On Geekbench’s single-core CPU test, the A10 chip that can be found in the iPad scored 3463, and on the multi-core test, it scored 5845.

The tablet from Microsoft has scored 2200 on the single-core test and 4000 on the multi-core test. It is possible to score more in the future, though.

In terms of usability

Both of these tablets are easy to use. When it comes to the hardware, they are practically the same device.

If we are to go into details, the Pen and the Type Cover from Microsoft are better than Apple’s Smart Keyboard and the Apple Pencil. But that does not mean that the keyboard from Microsoft is perfect. It has its ups and downs, but we still think it is better than that from Apple.

In terms of the operating system

Here, clearly, we have a winner: Microsoft. The reason is quite simple: iPad OS is now better, and it has support for multitasking. Let us mention Split View. But Microsoft comes with many more. For example, virtual desktops, which is a much more effective way to add apps to the so-little screen. Apple also comes with picture-in-picture more, and Microsoft does not. But we have made our choices.

In terms of multimedia

We know – it is not quite “normal’ to take pictures with a tablet. But with the tablet from Apple, you cannot lose this chance. The camera is much better, and there are many apps that are specially made for iPad, which set the iPad higher than the device coming from Microsoft, the Surface Go.

Keep in mind that streaming apps, such as Netflix – are available for both of these platforms. It is just that Surface Go comes with a built-in kickstand which has the perfect support for it.

In terms of apps

Microsoft has made Surface Go for those who also need a long-time travel friend – Office. But that is about it. It does not come with more apps for its users to enjoy. Apple, on the other hand, comes with many more apps, besides Office, which can be found on both of the platforms. Of course, Windows usually comes with a lot more than that, but most of the apps are not useful for these tablets. We do not think someone would ever use Photoshop on a tablet, or any kind of app that is difficult to manage on such little screen, and such a simple device.

iOS also comes with a great variety when talking about Apple apps and third-party software, as well. But, again, you would not do much on a tablet – maybe some light editing and some creative content. Still, the iPad is focused on creative content. So this one also goes to Apple.

We must also add that the Surface Go comes with Windows 10 in S Mode. This means that you will only be able to get the apps that are available in Microsoft Store. But you know, you can always choose to go for the full version of Windows 10.
